On A Global Ethic: Two Badi Blog Finds

JohnTaylor of the Badi Blog is "an essayist specializing in the Bahá'í Principles. Essays come out every day or so. In 2008 we have been discussing the proofs of God." A post a day is certainly prolific, and his posts, unlike mine, are all original. His essays are far-ranging, pithy, and often scholarly. What I like most about his work is that he roots his reflections in his personal life. From reading this evening this post on the Badi Blog, I learn of the following two fascinating documents. -gw

TOWARD A UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF A GLOBAL ETHIC

DECLARATION TOWARD A GLOBAL ETHIC

Underlying the Global Ethic project is the basic conviction that there can be:

• No peace among the nations without peace among the religions.
• No peace among the religions without dialogue between the religions.
• No dialogue between the religions without investigation of the foundations of the religions.

The first major result of this investigation of the foundation of the religions was the “Declaration towards a Global Ethic” which was endorsed by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1993. The draft was written by Hans Küng in the Institute for Ecumenical Research at the University of Tübingen.
