On Khalil Green's Big Hit: News He's a Baha'i

Got word back from MikesterMike on MySpace. -gw

Thanks for the comment! For my blog, you are the first! Congrats.

As for your questions: No, I have not checked out to see if there are any Baha'i in the community. I am sure there are a good number an hour up the road in Houston, but here in the Brazosport area, they'd be few in number.

We were watching the Houston Astros versus the San Diego Padres. Khalil Tabit Greene plays for San Diego. We thought it was a very unique name, so we did a little Google action and found out that he is Baha'i. So, then we went over to Wikipedia to learn a little about the faith.

As with any faith, core beliefs can always be corrupted or misapplied. But it was refreshing to know a growing community of folks follow :

the abandonment of all forms of prejudice
assurance to women of full equality of opportunity with men
recognition of the unity and relativity of religious truth
the elimination of extremes of poverty and wealth
the realization of universal education
the responsibility of each person to independently search for truth
the establishment of a global commonwealth of nations
recognition that true religion is in harmony with reason and the pursuit of scientific knowledge

Wow. Cannot argue with that. Well, almost, but it is all good. Thanks.
